John Brothers, Senior Fellow

John Brothers is a Senior Fellow, specializing executive leadership, at the Support Center for Nonprofit Management. He is a recognized leader in nonprofit and human/social service management with over 20 years of experience (10 as an executive) in the public service arena. John is an active consultant working with federal, state and local government and local, state and national nonprofit organizations. John is also an adjunct professor in Nonprofit Management at NYU's Wagner School for Public Service. He has previously served as the Executive Director of Project Reach Youth, a 40-year old nonprofit in Brooklyn serving low-income children and families. He is a former adjunct professor at George Mason University in Nonprofit Finance and Fund Development, and a former fellow with the Children's Defense Fund and the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs. John has a MPA from NYU and a MBA from American Public University.

Jamie started at the Support Center as a research intern, while at Fordham,and is now responsible for co-ordinating our training program and related data. She has a BA in Sociology from Fordham University and is continuing nonprofit studies at NYU.  Jamie is a United Way Junior Fellow.

Don brings more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors to his work and is nationally recognized as a high-energy trainer and consultant in the areas of grants and funding development, developing effective boards, and nonprofit leadership. He has raised millions of dollars for nonprofit organizations and has held numerous positions in organizations in the tri-state area, including roles as Board Member, Director of Research & Development, President, and CEO. Don has been an associate consultant to BoardSource (formerly the National Center for Nonprofit Boards), and is a trained facilitator of the BoardSource self-assessment process. Don has served on the selection committee for the New York Times Nonprofit Excellence Awards. He holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.S. in Leadership and Strategic Management and is an adjunct professor of graduate studies at Manhattanville College and at New York University's Heyman Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising.

Harriet brings over 18 years of experience in small business management together with a sustained interest in the areas of nonprofit housing and microenterpise. She successfully started, ran, and sold a small business which required a constantly updated website and seasonal catalogues. Harriet recently graduated from Fordham University with a BA in Political Science.

Sandra Levine, Director of Programs

Contact Sandra for questions related to transition management and program intake including consulting and coaching. Sandra brings over ten years of program development and technical assistance management experience in the nonprofit sector to her position as Director of Programs. Prior to working with the Support Center, she has served as Director of Training for the Practitioners Institute of Harlem Children's Zone, as an Human Resources Instructor at Baruch College and with Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies as Director of their Center for Professional Development. Sandra received a BA in Psychology from University of Michigan, an MS, Social Work from Columbia University and her MBA for Baruch College, CUNY.

Scott Ross, Director of Training

Scott brings an extensive background in education, psychology, and program management to his position as Director of Training. Before joining the Support Center team, Scott served as the Assistant Manager of Alumni Services at the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Curriculum Manager at iMentor, Account Manager for Executive Education programs at Columbia Business School, and Senior Research Assistant at the National Commission on Teaching & America's Future. Scott also has considerable experience as an educator in a variety of contexts, including special education, experiential education, alternative schools, service-learning programs, community colleges, and private tutoring. He holds an EdM degree in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as a BA in Psychology from Reed College.

Calvin Thomas, New Jersey Training Coordinator

Calvin started his career, of 20 years, in the US Navy. He is a native and resident of Trenton and is a certified Master Teacher Trainer with the Princeton Center for Leadership Training.
Calvin is a former adjunct faculty member with the State of New Jersey Department of Personnel's Human Resource Development Institute. He has developed a Community Partners for Youth model and works with a community stakeholders group of more than 100 non-profit social service agencies in Trenton and the neighboring communities. He has trained hundreds of parents across the state to organize, lead, and facilitate parent support group meetings in their neighborhoods.

As Director of the Support Center in Trenton Calvin consults and trains with Boards and nonprofit staff specializing in conflict resolution and issues of diversity.

Anneliese Torgerson, Operations Associate

Anneliese will greet you on the phone or at the front door and is your first stop for nonprofit resources. Anneliese recently graduated from Harvard with a BA in Psychology. Anneliese has volunteered and worked around nonprofits throughout her studies and we welcome her curiosity and energy as a great addition to our staff and the nonprofit sector.

John has been working with nonprofit organizations for over thirty years and is currently the Associate Director of the Support Center for Nonprofit Management. Dr. Vogelsang has consulted with nonprofit organizations in the areas of organization development, strategic planning, board development, executive transitions, participatory evaluation, strategic restructuring, and conflict management. He serves as a coach for many executive directors, and he has conducted numerous board and staff retreats and executive director peer learning groups. His clients have included foundations, human service agencies, universities, national professional associations, social justice and environmental organizations, HIV/AIDS service providers, and housing agencies. He has published many articles and monographs on organization development and leadership issues. He also serves on the editorial board of the OD Practitioner.
